How to read the calendar

  • Central-bank decisions (Federal Reserve, ECB, Bank of England, Bank of Japan) set the cost of borrowing and saving. They move mortgages, loans and currencies.
  • Inflation (CPI) tells you how fast prices are rising; a higher-than-expected number makes rate rises more likely.
  • Jobs reports show whether the economy is creating work. The US report comes out on the first Friday of most months at 8:30 a.m. New York time.
  • High impact events are the ones that most often move stock markets, bond yields and exchange rates on the day.

Our editors add confirmed events every week in the Week Ahead preview. Dates and times come from official calendars (central banks, statistics offices) and are checked in at least two sources. This page is for information only and is not investment advice. Read our editorial policy.
